A thought exercise only - WARNING - just for grins (and you can bet SOMEBODY has done this) what happens if ya just JB weld the damn plug in there? Just curious. Does it hold? LOL
I may find out if it holds soon enough lol! Actually, I've done some research online and this is a common problem with Ford trucks, infuriating many, many people.

Yep, and it's expensive, because there's lots of labor involved to do it correctly and make a lasting repair.

Not to mention, it's pretty expensive to buy the tools necessary to properly repair it. I've done a couple and it's not a huge job, but it's not necessarily within the range of the average shadetree mechanic, either.

Thanks, I have it in a shop right now and am waiting for their estimate. So far, it looks like I'll be paying either close to $400 for the thread repair and new parts, or an outrageous amount to have the head sent out or possibly even replaced. Been saying a lot of prayers.

Thanks Tom! Btw, once it's repaired, is there much of a chance that they'll come out again?

Thanks, I'm going to check it out right now. It would be nice if I could find a trustworthy, reasonable mechanic near Northville.

Coils like the Accel are known not to last. It is possible you had a coil failure. FYI the blown plug deal is not as common as some say it is. When they do blow it is most likely caused by lack of proper maint (detonation) or people whom do damage during the plug change.

I initially thought it was just the coil because it was so cold here and my truck was hitting the bumps so hard, but it sounded a little too loud to be just the coil. And from all of the research I've done so far, every mechanic is aware of Ford trucks spitting out plugs. What sucks is that none of them guarantee that the re-threading will work, and the alternative is to ship out the head for possible repair or replacement for big $$$.

The problem is finding a mechanic that is competent enough to properly install a Timesert, which can be installed in vehicle without pulling the head. Of course it is hard enough to find a mechanic that can do a proper plug change without causing damage let alone finding someone to repair the result of a poor plug change. It is why I do my own work and I have never had any modular blow plugs that I have worked on, pre 2003 modulars included.
