It must be out of a bigger truck. E-brake drum and two piece driveshaft.

Looks like I was going to not charge enough for one I took to VA for a guy who never showed. Now I have to bring it back to NY. Those things are heavy.

Are those the synchro silent 4 speed.? I am looking for one for my 51 M5. I think the 48-52 are different from the 53 To 56. Different transmission mount and different input shaft. Or am I wrong?

These transmission were synchronized 2nd through 4th. 1st gear is not. These transmission were used from 1953 to around 1966. Really good transmissions.

You are correct. The T98 Syncro-Silent for the 48-52 mounts different than the later trannies.

I thought these trannys are hard to find. Or is it hard to find the 48-52 models. Guys I talk to up here in my area have never even heard of them. I have not seen a six cylinder flat head neither. Must not have sold many in Canada.

I read here somewhere that Fords and Mercurys for Canada had ONLY V8s, no 6 cylinders.

The early ones are uncommon to see because they were only standard equipment in the F6 with the 254 6 engine, and optional with the V8. The 6 cylinder engine wasn't used in Canada, so you guys would likely have an even tougher time finding one. After 53, the T98 was used extensively in all the models.

Well Wayne I guess that explains it. I've been looking for something that pretty much doesn't exsist up here. Guess I will just stick with the crash box. Trying to find a T98 with a PTO will just have to stay being a pipe dream. I already bought new gears from Chuck so I should just stick to the original plan. Here I thought I found something special for one of you guys in the east. Every time I come on this site I learn a little bit more. Thanks guys.
Doug.

A '55 and earlier pto will work on the '48-'52 T98, but the pto may be harder to find than the '48-'52 T98 transmission itself.

I've got a T-98 with a PTO that came out of a 55 3/4 ton 6 cyl. Used it in my 54 for years. Now it's sitting on the floor in the garage.

I understand what the T98 stands for but what does the -148 indicate?
