Engine noise

I have a 92 f-250 4 wheel drive pickup with 7.3 non turbo motor, about 97 thousand miles on truck. The motor makes a clatter when running always has since I have it. I think that is normal for these motors, what seems abnormal is the engine at idle seems normal then the clatter gets real loud, hit the throttle and loud clatter drops to normal clatter??????? just changed injector pump but all seemed ok and now ????? . also just replaced the e4od that seems ok I will switch out coil pack from old trans to the used one I put in, that should have no effect on engine noise though I have no clue HELP

It's timing. I suspect you have the IP too advanced, slightly.
How did you time the new IP, anyway?

noisy motor

When I changed the ip I did not turn over the engine or replace the pump timing gear so it was no problem . I set ip line mark to ip housing mark and it ran ok, I will rotate ip towards drivers side and see if clatter becomes normal, thanks for your help

Yes, that is considered "static timing".
These engines are supposed to be "dynamic timed" using a timing light and tester system, but you can get away with adjusting it by ear, usually... but you will have to play with it and see how things go.

go about 1/16" between marks, that usually seems to be about right, & yes the naturally aspirated motors seem to rattle compared to the charged motors, we've got 3 91 natural, 93 charged & 94 charged & they all "rattle" different, can't here yourself think in the 91 & the 94 is quieter than a PS, Macrobb is right you'll have to play with it, even with a light you can't set them all exactly the same, just like setting dist timing on an old gasser each one has it's own personality, one last piece of advice, just go ahead & make the wrench to get to bottom bolt, saves a lot of 4 letter words

I've found that a $10 set of 'stubby' wrenches from Harbor Freight works wonders -- the 9/16 being what you need.
Some pumps will let you get in with the wrench 'stock', some need it ground thinner... In my case, one truck worked, one did not.
When I ground mine down, I was impressed at how the steel didn't rust easily -- it was obviously made from some high-chrome steel.

yeah stubbies are nice, think i've got about as many "custom"wrenches as i do unmodified ones. IF YOU CAN'T BUY IT BUILD IT
