I been working on 2001 ford sport trac 4.0 4x4 auto. Last night start taking rear end apart to fix bearings. When I started taking the diff lock pin bolt out it rounded off!!!!
Well now, might just replace it. Tag says 4.10.....the sticker on door when I looked at it says. Axle D4.
When I looked that up, it says 3.73?????
So did someone put in wrong rear end or someone put on another door????
Are ratio tags on the front axle or anywheres else.
sometimes you can grab the bolt head with vice grips or drive it around with a cold chisel and hammer... Probably has loc tite glueing it in.. Might heat it with a propane torch to loosen the glue... Put flame right on the head of bolt till red.
Ok. It's the 4.10. But the part stores are having trouble finding the parts I need. When I take something apart, I put matching parts back!! They can't find the differential clutches that r in mine. And the differential gears that match. mine are the gears that have splines inside for the alxe and splines for the clutches on the outside.... WHY can't they find my parts. Did ford change them or something?????
