battery light

Hey guys. Got a 2006 f-250. Had to replace both batteries and alternator about 5 months ago. (Light never came on) . put a autozone alternator i believe 110 amp and the next day light would go on and off iintermittently. Upgraded a week later with i believe a 140amp and the light has been off for approx 4 months. Well today. Out of nowhere, it came back on and has stayed on. Not cutting on and off like it did last time. Any ideas on what to do now? Am i looking at another alternator? Any help would be great.

Were they rebuilt alternators? If so, take it back and get a NEW 140 amp unit. AutoZone carries them.

Well that sucks...I bought their new 140 but haven't installed it yet. Are you able to check alt output voltage?

At least ya have a lifetime warranty on it...

Check the output on the alternator at the charging lug.

Also verify voltage at the connector KOER on both pins.

Not at all unusual in my experience. Check the connections, the smaller wires on the back of the alt can get brittle, corroded and crumbly. If that's ok you likely have a warranty claim. If the light is on solid it will fail on their bench tester, no problem with exchange you just get to do the work . Maybe the next one will be good,, or the one after that.

Update. Found out yesterday that the 140 alternator was indeed a reman. Got the old one pulled off yesterday afternoon and took it back to autozone, guy didn't even test it, all they had was a new one (which I was going to buy anyways, didn't even charge me the extra amount for reman to new!! took it home and installed. NO BATTERY LIGHT so far!!!!! Very odd thing though, my truck has never been known to give put out smoke. My last one if I punched it would roll black smoke. I pulled out of the gas station on my way home and had to get out in front of someone and I had black smoke for a short period of time (maybe 2-3 seconds) no smoke at all going down the road. boost is normal, running fine, cranking fine. idk weird? ill keep an eye on it and report back if any changes.
