Another No Start Problem...

New to the forum, but not to truck forums...trying to expand my knowledge base.

Truck is 96 F350 7.3L CCLB 4x4. It has many mods, which I'll display once I setup my sig line.

Problem started yesterday. Tried to have a code read by a generic reader (yes, I know this won't work), while the truck was running. When the coder reader powered up, the truck shut down. Would not restart. Drug it home, disconnected batteries for a little over an hour and the truck started...after a long cranking sequence. I noticed earlier in the day that it was taking longer to start (unusual since it normally fires right up). Cranked it this morning, which again required a longer sequence. Ran fine for about 30 minutes, then as I let off the pedal to turn into a gas station, it shut down and hasn't restarted since.

Currently, there is no check engine light showing. The WTS light cycles on/off as it should. The fuel bowl is full. All fuses are good. Swapped around the IDM relay and PCM relay with the horn relay and that didn't help. GPR has 12.5V coming in and 10.5V going out (when key is turned on). Replaced the CPS about 10 months ago with dark blue motorcraft unit.

I do not have access to a correct code reader. Right now I'm scratching my head...

HELP HELP

Any smoke while cranking?

Any electrical problems with other things on the truck?

A friend of mine a couple years ago had an OBS that would not start. They were pulling their hair out trying to figure it out. They checked out the lights, and found the 3rd brake light was burnt out. They replaced it, and it started! They went and cleaned all the ground connections from the frame to the body as well as from the batteries to the engine, frame, and body.

I hear ya on this. But due to some previous problems I was experiencing, I replaced the 3rd brake light a while back. It burns bright.

If the IDM and PCM are getting power, and it's not firing, then, either one of them is bad, or it's out of fuel. Those would be my 2 best guesses at this point.

Odds are your glow plug relay is on it way out. That's why it takes longer to start when cold. But that wouldn't cause your shutdown. Have you filled the tank yet. I would start there

I had a feeling about the GPR, but the long crank sequence yesterday was when the truck was at operating temp. Are you talking about filling the fuel tanks? Both of them are around half full at the moment.

Perhaps there's someone in your area with a scanner that could help.

Have you had fuel pickup problems in the past. Reason I ask is sometimes the pickups can break off leaving you stranded. Fill one tank and see if your ok. Can you check fuel pressure while cranking?

Both fuel pickups are brand new, replaced them when I replaced the tanks a few months ago.

The only person I know with a scanner cannot bring it to me since its computer based. If only the truck could crank up, I'd take it to him ;-)

I just tested the GP's with an ohmmeter and all but one of them appear to be working. However, lacking on GP should not be causing this significant of an issue. The GPR checks out on the 2 larger posts, but the smaller post that should have power when the switch is on does not.

I just started the truck after a medium length cranking sequence. Before doing so, I let the GPR run until the buzzing slowly faded away. The truck started after this and ran fine. However, after shutting it down, waiting a few minutes and trying again, I got nothing. This time, the GPR buzzed loudly then "clicked" off. No start...
