I have a 1972 f100 and the ps pump was leaking. Looked like the return hose so I replaced it. The one I got and only one I can find anywhere is a 2wd hose though. The metal line at the end is a lot different. The one on mine, a 4wd, just has a short piece of metal line with a fitting. Not curved or anything. It seems impossible to find any parts for the 4wd ps. But I made it fit and the hose looks like it kinks a little but not too bad I don't think.. My problem is the pump still whines. Maybe worse. I think there is enough fluid. I put about a quart in. But it whines really bad. Any ideas?
The F100 4x4 didn't have power steering until the next body style, if yours is full power steering then it's likely a late 70s box. If it is power assist, then it could be anything, Ford or aftermarket.
1965/77 Ford P/S pumps have a steel reservoir. The P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump.
1978: Ford changed the P/S pump on everything except Passenger Cars with Hydro-Boost & Econolines (these use the Saginaw pump).
This 1978 and later pump has a plastic reservoir, the P/S pressure hose connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.
This pump is also a different shape than the steel reservoir pump. FE P/S pump mountings brackets will not fit it.

1973: First year that F100/250 4WD's were available with P/S, and it was initially Power Assist P/S thru 1975 F100/150 4WD, thru 1977 F250 4WD (High Boys).
The manual steering gear box is used with Power Assist P/S.
Power Assist: Two long P/S hoses, pressure and return, route from the pump to the Control Valve.
Two short P/S hoses, pressure and return, route from the Control Valve to the Hydraulic Ram Cylinder.
Ford/Saginaw integral P/S introduced in 1976 F100/150 4WD; 1977 F250 4WD (not a High Boy) from serial number Y20,001.
As you can tell from the post above you would have to figure out what year truck your power steering components came off of to get a replacement new hose. OR research and find a local hose company that can re-rubber hose your original one. These companies usually can re-hose A/C,P/S, etc.
