It seems to be coming on at a slightly lower speed now. Need to do some more testing as have only been on the highway twice since the rear springs went in.
In looking for vibes over the years:
All wheel bearings tight? I have had these go out on trucks with just a gnat hairs worth of loose in them but cause a monster shake at highway speeds. Also tie rods being loose can cause the entire truck to shake, not just the front end. My rod end at the pitman arm was bad last summer and now that I think back at how bad it shook, kind of scary. I have also been told on the big driveshafts with the center slip joint, that you should slide that apart when you have the shaft off doing U-joints, clean and lubricate where it slides or it can cause issues also. Motor mounts and trans mounts solid? Last thing I can think of is that funky huge weight hanging down under the trans crossmember. I have been told its there to reduce vibrations? Do you have this thing on yours? I am trying to track down a vibe of my own, but it only happens at 75MPH or higher, the speed limit on these roads in Texas... I get way better mileage at 70 though, so its not a huge priority.
Went on a highway drive this morning, vibe starts at 65 and tapers off by 72 mph or so. There is a second, more aggressive, vibe at about 80 mph.
I will be checking pinion angle and getting the driveshaft balanced this week for sure.
I was just reading your thread about a driveshaft vibration after switching to your X/C codes. I literally just picked my X up tonight after the shop got done installing them. They told me they replaced the rear u-joint because it was shot and that I had a vibration @ 55-65 mph. The owner of the shop has been a family friend for 20 years. I trust him.
Long story short...
Did you ever rebalance your driveshaft? Did it get rid of your vibration? Strange how many threads I've just read about vibrations showing up right after suspension changes. I'm wondering if the driveline is possibly out of phase (not 90* on the transmission shaft and 90* on the pinion shaft). With a worn out u-joint in 43k miles...driveshaft balance is what i'm leaning towards.
To update this thread...I got the rear driveshaft balanced and that got rid of the vibe. Local shop commented they do a few of these as the factory never gets it right. They removed all the factory weights and also had to "true" the area where the tube welded to the CV assembly as it was out of round.
Overall happy with how the new springs ride but at times I wish they were a bit softer as we have lots of concrete roads with expansion joints.
Love how the Ex and ATS X/C code springs handled my recent 7,500# towing trip. No WD hitch, no rear swaybar, the Ex handled it better than other diesel trucks I have used in the past...
I am still chasing a noise from the front springs which is driving me nuts.
