Any trick to removing windshield chrome?

I haven't tried yet but is there a proper way to remove the chrome trim from my windshield and back window rubbers? And install tips?

not sure about removal tips, but install be sure the trim is in the seals when you put the window in. That is what I have heard.

Uni, Can I say it this way, Last out, First in.

Usually will bend if you try to remove in place.

If the rubber weatherstrips are old and/or hard as a rock, cut them with an xacto knife from the inside of the cab, then push the glass and the remains of the w/strips out.

These mouldings have to be installed in the groove of their weatherstrips before the glass is installed.

The windshield and back glass are EZ for one person to remove, but it takes two people to reinstall them. The rope-a-dope method and soapy water is required for installation.

Drip rail trim

Thanks for the great advice. I was about to try to remove it with the windshield still in.

Now what about the drip rail chrome? Can I remove it before painting and reinstall it after paint or is it best left alone and just mask it off.

You didn't say the reason for pulling the trim. If it is a truck in a PNP or a parts truck were it don't matter, use a box knife and cut it out. If it is in your truck and your just wanting to do away with it, leave it till you ready to pull the window.

I'm preparing it for paint. It will be getting a new windshield and new rubbers. I'm thinking I might leave the cracked windshield in during paint (easier than masking a big opening) and maybe trim the rubber back a bit to get good paint coverage under the new rubber.

cut the rubber is the easiest way , if original rubber it's probably hard as a rock , just break rubber on inside with pliers .

Paint will come out better if you remove all the trim. Your idea of trimming back the rubber might work if you get enough of it out of the way, but then you risk scratching your new paint when you take the glass out.

There is no factory drip rail chrome that I am aware of. If there is some on the truck I would remove before paint.

Left: 1967/69 drip rail mouldings: Basic part numbers: 51718 (R/L above windshield) - 51726 (R/L side above/behind doors) - 51762 (R/L joint clip between these two).

Right: 1970/72 = Shows a better pic of 51726.
