i have a '97 e150 van. My wipers only work when they feel like working. I heard that some vehicles have a separate relay for the intermittent wipers. My question is does this vehicle have that, and if so, where is it located? I can hear the wiper relay clicking on when I turn the wipers to a high setting, but not in low or any of the intermittent settings, and my mechanic tells me the wiper motor is working. He thinks there's a short somewhere in the steering column, but admits he's just guessing. I don't want to waste my $$ trying to locate a short, only to find the problem is elsewhere, like in an intermittent wiper relay, if there is one on this vehicle...Looking for some knowledgeable answers...
Or, maybe we didn't give you a knowledgeable answer, even thought most of us have been there and did this, Hands on??
From Those answers, i was told my vehicle may or may not have a separate relay for the intermittent wipers. hence the newer question: does this van have one or not? knowledgeable, yes; specific, no, sarcasm unnessessary.
Then you could have just asked additional questions in your original post.
Yes, that model has a separate 'Wiper Motor Relay'
Located behind the knee panel on the passenger side.
Yes, that can go bad.
But, In most cases, it's the motor it's self that goes bad with what you wrote, because the motor does all the work, and circuits on-board of the motor assembly, that's exposed to the weather, that can go bad.
Yours don't turn on, I had one that didn't turn off, replace the motor on that one, and it worked fine for 6+ years after replacement.
Thus - 'hands-on' experience.
So, wiper motor = >$50 - Relay = <$125, Which part would you "try" first?
