Replacing battery terminals
I'm nearly done building my homebrew campervan, and I've got a number of extra electrical connections I'd like to make in the engine compartment.
The van is a 96 E350 7.3 and the stock battery terminals are pretty badly galled and the square screw head that is supposed to be captive turns freely. It still makes electrical contact decently, but I would like to chop the cables, put heavy copper ring terminals on the 1/0 and 4 ga wires that run into the existing terminals, and attach them to marine style bolt on terminals such that I have new terminals that are in better shape as well as extra space on stud to attach winch, house battery charging circuit, offroad lights, etc.
I've done this on a Tacoma which has a bolt on terminal already and requires many fewer cranking amps. I don't see why this is a bad idea on a Powerstroke but I wanted to double check and see if others think it may be a poor idea or if there is a better solution!
FYI, here is the type of marine terminal I'm planning on using, just to be clear:
Thanks in advance for opinions!
Josh
