The pulley on my power steering pump appears to be pressed on. I have a puller to get it off, but how do i re install it? My truck is a 92 i6 with the saginaw conversion but it looks to be the same concept as the original pump.
I pulled the whole bracket assembly from an 87 e250 so i never had to take the pulley off but its time for a new pump. (I will ask for a 87 e250 pump at the parts house)
The puller is also a re installer tool, at least most of them are. You have to force the pulley back on just as you pulled it off with the tool. Nice to have the directions that came with the tool, but you may be able to figure out how to push the pulley back on with the tool.
Maybe someone else will chime in with more specific details.
When you buy a new pump, it usually comes with a long bolt, a washer, and a nut that you use to press the pulley back on. You screw the nut onto the long bolt up to the head, or thereabouts, then slide the washer on, put the bolt thru the pulley hole and thread it into the pump shaft. Then just unscrew the nut against the pulley while holding the bolt from turning with a wrench to push the pulley on.
I rented the puller/pusher from autozone and the replacement went perfectly (which never happens). Thanks to all for steering me in the right direction
