Was just replacing line to steering box off of pump, but could NOT get it loose from any direction so I took the whole pump off. Prob just replace pump as well..since it's off but want to keep pulley to put on new pump. Looks like a T? and not sure how to take pulley off. I've searched on-line but no use. I guess if a new pulley is only $10 I'll just get a new pulley as well.
Any help would be great..
Thanks
SJM
It will have a coupler that fits over top of that lip then a collar fits over it and you just crank the nut while holding the bolt and it will pull right off. To put it on, you reverse the process. Just thread the threaded end into the end of the pump and crank.
Mine that I purchased is a puller only, so I used a bolt and some injenuity and pressed it back on with some washers.
Works on the vacuum pump as well.
It's a cheap tool set vs some other sets like a ball joint kit.
I changed my pulley without a puller if you're looking to save a few bucks/minutes.
1. put a ~1.5" long 3/8-16 screw into the threads in the old pump shaft.
2. support the HUB of the pulley with the jaws of a vise - don't clamp it, just set it on top with the jaws set to the right width. and make sure your supporting the hub and not the outer rim, otherwise you could bend the pulley. the body of the pump should be hanging down through the vise, with the screw you put in facing up. you'll have to hold the body of the pump with one hand to keep the pulley oriented flat on the vise jaws.
3. tap on the head of the screw with a small hammer until the pump is free from the pulley
4. remove the screw from the old pump shaft to completely free the pulley.
then, to put the pulley on the new pump, use the same 3/8-16 screw and a bunch of washers to pull the pulley on. you may need a few different length screws, or a big stack of washers. you just turn the screw until the pulley is seated right. there'll be a very slight step on the pump shaft that the pulley seats against. DO NOT HAMMER THE PULLEY ON or you'll be buying another new pump!
took me about 10 mins to swap the pulley over this way - faster than I can drive to the parts store since I had ordered the pump by mail :-)
