I have to replace the electrical portion of my ignition switch on my 78 and need to get a few other parts from a wrecking yard. Can you separate the key portion from the switch portion if the key is NOT available, as is usually the case in a wrecking yard? If it's like newer Fords, I recall you have to put it in the ACC position and then push a pin in; are these the same way?
They aren't that much online so no biggie if I go that route.
Pretty sure on yes you need the key, yes on turned left to acc, yes on the end of a paper clip in hole under where the key goes, then it should turn some more to the left and then use the key to pull the tumblers out.
If you are going to a JY and find one with a key, it quicker to pop the complete ing switch, tumblers and all. Take the 3 notched ring off the front (it is threaded, lefty loosie) then push it out the back side of the dash. Un hook elec connection and toss in tool bag.
But first ck if the key works in the door locks, then pop them too. Remove door panel, pull tab on door edge, and un hook lock lever. Also ck the truck for a locking glove box, same key?
