Have you looked into something like this? https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...leds-3528/103/
They come in water resistant strips that you could use some clear RTV to
mount inside the hood and then power from the under hood light and
switch assemble.
Bue what ever you use I like the idea. The one think I would like to add
to my truck is a switch to turn the lamp off so I can leave the hood up
and not have the light on each time I open a door.
Your truck has a light under the hood? Mine doesn't. Yea, I plan to have the light switched so I can turn it on as needed. I already bought the light and magnets, so I'm committed to making it work now.
I have gone back and forth with under hood lights.
This one has the light the last one did not. It can be
a love/hate relationship. The timer will catch you right
when you need the light. I think Anthony had one of
the magnet mount LED flashlights that you can move
around to get the light where you need it to be.
But when you out somewhere in the dark. All the light
in the right spot is helpful.
Kinda funny seeing this post. I was just looking at the Harbor freight sales flyer.
They have a 120 LED rechargeable 41 in. under hood work light for $35 on sale.
Not shure how good it is or how long a charge it holds. # 60793
They also have a supposed Hand held scanner like a modis or maxim but I am not shure about their sales pitch. LOL first thing they say is it is already out of date and will have to be updated and uses a lot of different adapter cables. How current can it be? # 62385
Hey Money,
Where did you buy and how much was it $ ? and if you have a part#.
Looks like a lot of light and the temporary magnets you mention in your video are kool too cause if you need to move it around in the engine compartment it's like daylight.
BTW, in my 06 the wires for that light come out of the harness by driver's side, very top of firewall, just under the rubber gasket, they're very thin would say like a #18 or #20, one green and one black. In any event this should not be difficult to hook up cause you're installing a switch too and that's also an A+
Thanks for sharing
I bought the light at Amazon for $17.99. It's a Kawell 12 watt flood beam, and it pulls about 1.5 amps. I used two 25 lb magnets. (the light is cast aluminum and is pretty heavy for as small as it is) Total cost for everything, about $25.
I couldn't decide what to do about a switch....so I used some redneck engineering for the time being, until I decide what switch to use and where to mount it.
Those rope lights are neat I have some mounted in the top of of my tool boxes on my utility bed. They don't put out a lot of light but at 3 am on a moonless night on a service call in the middle of nowhere they are worth their weight in gold.
I also have a couple of long ones with 20ft leads with spring clips. Hook them up to the battery of whatever I am working on and just drape em wherever I can. Beats constantly moveing a drop light. Flood lights are great but your own body will block the light while you are working.
