I've got a 95 f250 4x4 supercab longbed and I enjoy it. Being 4x4 turning radius of a bus (my analogy) we go camping at lake Mendocino about 45 to 1 hour from home and have 1child 9yr and he does complain about the space. I've got a bed cap and load it from front to back gas mileage sucks but me and the boy like the truck wife not so much.trucks a daily driver for me and wife has dodge minivan as hers.
I've had a supercab, and my current CCSB. I'll never settle for anything less than a CC, and all of my kids are older and live on their own. Most times it's just me and the wife, but that back seat storage really comes in handy, as well as being able to comfortably take passengers if need be.
As far as off roading, the only thing I've done with mine are some beach trails near us. No issues there, but I guess it all depends on what kind of off roading you want to do.
I have one year old twins. We have a supercab long bed it works but is a pain. now it may be easier cause were switching to front facing. that being said I would Kill for a crew cab in dont care what engine as long as it was in the shape mine is. alas even 460s here are 5-9 grande for high mileage trucks.
but i will say i ALWAYs feel safe with my rug rats in the old super cab.
