I have pulled the pan off of a couple FE's in dentside Highboy's. Is yours a rear sump? if yes, it should come off with ease. If no, it should come off with ease. What is keeping your pan from coming off? There is nothing really under the engine on a stock highboy (except the axle but you can put the frame on jack stands - but you don't have to).
The deep part of the pan is in the front , the oil pump hangs low. Looks like I can reach in and drop the pump but am worried that's a gong show to put back on

Yea I could try to raise the frame. Good call. Cuz the pan is resting on axle
Going to be more of a challenge with the wrong pan in your truck. You may be able to get away with it if you make some tall stands for under the frame. That way you can drop the axle out of the way.
