Now that I have my truck all together, I really dislike how the engine sits. It works, but I'm going to redo it in the spring before I put a new front clip on.
Basically, I need to get rid of the rear sump. I can extend the bottom of the whole pan about 2", cut the rear sump even with that, and drop the engine down about 2".
Is there a pan like this already exists, maybe a marine pan? If not I can just rebuild my own, but does anyone have a pic of the oil pickup mounted on the engine, minus the pan? I'd like to be able to do some pre-planning on this.
Even better if someone has a dead engine I can mock the whole thing up on and then just swap out the pan and pickup on my truck.
Any mods you do to the pan must still allow for the 10 qaurts of oil. these things need it all for the cooling, and to suspend the gunk in. Don't go the gm way and run it like a gasser lol.
The oil pump is gear driven off the crankat the front of the motor, with a pickup tube bolted to it that leads to the rear, much like the rear sump pans on ford motors, and don't bother looking for a pan gasket, I couldn't find one Ultra Black RTV is all that is needed I guess.
Ya really. In the past (before my diesel life lol) a complete gasket kit meant complete. But with old girls that pan gasket and the valley pan are seperate. So how is called complete? If you buy a head gasket kit it should have all the stuff to replace what had to come off right?

I'd sure think so, I really don't carejust charge me more and give me everything I need, don't leave stuff out and tempt me to do stuff half a$$, thats a battle I fight even when I have all the right stuff. But so far my UltraBlack gasket from a tube is working great!
I put mine on over 3 yrs ago and it is still holging up great. The thing with gaskets on oil pans and valve covers is not to kill the bolts lol. I don't even use the torque wrench on them. I run them dowm with a socket and extension that gives me a clean grip then just snug them with the ratchet. rarely do I get any leaks. I really hate useing that "silly"cone stuff unless there is no other choice. Just aint natural lol.

My basic plan is to take what is currently the higher area of the pan and extend that down 2", then cut the lower portion to match, or even taper it up a bit like the old Ford center sump pans. I have every intention of keeping the 10qt capacity, or even expanding on that. I can't stand engines that don't have enough oil.
I plan on baffling and possibly even adding some sort of windage tray to the sump oil off the crank.
