2006 powerstroke, I got a check engine light today for EBP sensor. But with temperatures around -5 I dont want to mess with it right now. I read somewhere that you can just unplug it. So can I unplug it until the temps get back in the positive, or will it cause more trouble? Truck runs fine.I've been doing alot of idling do to cold and it's never been cleaned.
From my understand you can unplug with 03 versions, the EBP depending upon strategy installed does not use the EBP. I have an 03 with mine disconnected and it has not affected operation.
IIRC newer versions/newer models utilize the EBP with AIT 1/2 and MAF as part of the Turbo operation. I am not certain if the truck will run if you disconnect it.
I second the current course to pull the sensor and the stainless sense line coming from the exhaust manifold and clean it out first. Also pull and clean the elbow that connects the sense line to the sensor. These items are easily clogged with soot.
Also may want to inspect the wire harness for any chaffing once you are in there.
Sensor located/mounted to thermostat. I believe the mount nuts are 13mm. You may need to double wrench the bottom nut in order to pull them. Sometimes the lower mount nut will loosen. Remove intake first and Cold side boost tube and you will have plenty of access.
I cleared the code and have been driving it and it didn't come back. To cold lately -5 out today. Going to friends garage today to clean it truck doesn't fit in mine anymore. Mines on the driver side valve cover. I just was wondering if i could unplug it and drive until i got it done.
