Tried to clean out the sensor this week and still getting the crazy warm-up woosh. Took the sensor off and cleaned it. Also cleaned out the metal line that runs down to the motor out with brake kleen and trimmer line. It was clogged for sure. Used the whole can.
Started it up the other day and no change at all. HELP!!!!!!!! Could it be the sensir it self?
In cold weather, you are supposed to hear noises from the exhaust while idling. It means the EBPV is operating properly. Cleaning out the sensor tube allows that EBPV to open as you are driving, not necessarily while idling.
have two of the same trucks an 02 7.3. I understand the normal warm up But on of the trucks is about ten more times intense, actually effects driving when cold out for the first five minutes. Theres a lag in power.
I did not replace the sensor itself, just cleaned it and the sensor tubing

Then the problem may very well be in the sensor itself. That EBPV is only going to open in cold weather (45 F or less) under these cirumstances:
1) engine oil temp is above 167 F
2) the PCM can recognize elevated backpressure via the sensor
3) at or near WOT (high load situation, except in certain situations).
4) The EBPS is unplugged or grounded causing an open or short circuit
If one of those criteria aren't met in cold weather, you can bet that EBPV is going to stay closed. The fact that it does open up on it's own when the engine warms up indicates the valve itself is functioning fine and not sticking.
I had to replace mine, it never worked right since I got the truck, I now have the normal whoosh sound (jet engine). But the abnormal sound I was the valve would open and close every 2 seconds or so, in a continuious loop, now it just closes and stays closed until up to temp, my connection hose was also plugged.
