I started in on a honda B16A motor for a circle track guy. New Cp pistons, manley rods, acl bearings, titanium retainers, dual valve springs, "stage 3" cams, port and polish, arp head studs and main studs and rods bolts, the whole bit.
Shooting for about 11.5:1cr an over 200hp to the wheels.
I built a D16 for him last year and he took class championship. This year he is looking to take two classes.
I am sort of half and half into it. I was born and raised in the family live bait business then later on in life I got into welding and metal working. Now I am at the point where I do both equally as much and have income from both.
Building motors isn't my main thing though. Like I mentioned I am more of a welder/fabricator and do more exhausts, intakes, intercooler piping, wheel tubs, suspensions, and the like.
I haven't opened up an actual shop yet because I am simply scared to get that involved. Working out of my back yard shop is much much cheaper than a road front shop with my name actually on it. Not that I have a shortage of work either, just the bills, insurance, taxes, and stuff scare me. I am not a book person at all my wife takes care of all my paper work.
