Good morning Wisconsin, welcome to Thursday! Nick, about time you stuck your head in here!

Andy, how much syrup do you usually make?

Good morning Nick and Pat!

This is the first year trying out the syrup thing Pat. I hung 3 pails total on two trees. We have snow on the ground so I will try to fill at least 3 5 gallon pails before starting to boil. I plan to only get about a quart of syrup in the end. Its mostly just some fun for the kids and to see how it goes this year.

From what I read the ratio is around 40:1 Depending on the trees used it can be a bit better ratio but not much. We have the "junk" maple trees around the house so I am expecting the lesser amount plus being the first time I am not going to get to optimistic. lol

Well, hopefully you'll get a lot of sap, then! So, does most of it just boil off?

Good morning!

Yes Pat, most of the fluid you get out of the trees is water. In fact some places bottle the "water" strait out of the tree. Apparently it is good for you. I actually haven't even tried a sip of "water" strait from the tree yet.

Well, I would certainly hope so, I'd hate to see you get all goofy, and trade it for a prius, or something sillly like that!
