They did their tests and said the IDM was bad, not putting out the voltage. So I had them replace it OUCH$$$. Still no start. Now they are blaming the injectors. I told them I was out of money and brought it home.

Unless something else shows up magically, looks like I'll be pulling the injectors soon. There is a diesel shop I can have them tested at, fairly local to me.

but why did you let ford replace your IDM I thought I read you already tried another.

I did try another but I wasn't 100% it worked.

How old is the camshaft pos sensor? I reread and see no mention and remember you must have min 10.5 v while CRANKING! Even if it sounds good I have had system voltage low enough to not fire the idm.
Don't pull them dang injectors until you have ohmd every individual injector. not in pairs.seperatly.use theold iIPR pigtail to test with.

New CPS it's the first thing I tried. Cranks at 200 rpm on the tach. I have put a 200amp battery booster on it for a quicker crank speed.

Good idea on the injectors. Do you suppose it could have blown an injector o-ring causing this mess? They've never been serviced since I've had it.

You cant test the electrical portion of the injectors without pulling them.

First of all, though did you ever ohm the wiring harness out between the IDM and the plugs at the valve covers?

Did the dealership at least return your old IDM to you since it (clearly) wasn't bad? Doggone stealership parts changers.... I'd be mad.

The way you want to test the Injectors is to ohm between the injector lead and the common for that plug. You should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.2 ohms on a healthy injector coil. You can also ohm from each injector to a ground, and you should show an open circuit (No connection) and the same from one injector to another. The main thing is that you're looking for a reading close to 3.2 ohm but all 8 injectors should be within about 10% of each other. If you get a reading that is way out of whack, then you may have a failed injector. While it's not unheard of, it's not all that common for the injectors to fail electrically. I would most definitely check them with a meter before I would pull them out of the truck. Got the injectors ohm'd. My cheap digital Radio Shack ohm meter said 0 ohms inj to common. and 5.7ohms inj to inj on three of the plugs and 5.6 on the third. Infiity to ground.

I'm going to check the idm/inj harness one more time. But I have no reason for it to be bad now, however that glowplug connection on the cover gasket went bad on me during this mess.

Something there isn't right. You should get ANY reading between the injectors and you should get 3.2 ohms or so between the injector and the common. You are testing the pins on the valve cover side, correct? Something is fishy there....

Yes I pulled the harness connectors from the cover gaskets. And tested from the inj pins to the common pin, and then between the inj pins.

If the center pin is common(neutral) and connected to both injectors then testing between the inj(power) pins should show resistance of both injectors. Double 3.2 is 6.4, my 5.7 is just shy of that. If there was separate neutral pins then there would be no connection between the inj pins.



Anyway there are no open injector circuits and none are shorted to ground.

Your logic is sound, I guess I've just never tested between the injector pins by themselves. It still seems odd that you can't test from the individual injectors to the common pin, unless your meter just won't read that resistance for some reason.

Do you have any way of performing a buzz test on this truck? That would eliminate the injectors, IDM, and wiring all in one fell swoop.

I pretty sure my meter is having a hard time reading lesser ohm numbers and goes right to zero. One reason I checked across both injectors.

I have no idea how to do a buzz test. I'd like to for sure!

Yes I'm still getting down where it says bad idm, pcm or wiring. Not much smoke just a wisp of white. Not fired at all since those first days. I have given it just a whiff of starting fluid(I know it's a no-no). I didn't give it enough to run on, but it would crackle some on that. Hpop is still 3000psi and fuel pressure is now >30psi (new pump).

I had it at the dealer and they said the idm wasn't putting out the voltage it should. The number they gave was <40v so they put on a new idm. They said the voltage went up to >100v. Then they started blaming the injectors with no proof of it. They wanted to pull the injectors and have them tested for over 1k. By this time I was disgusted and took it home.

Since it did have a cover gasket burn out while I was still working on it. I'm back testing the wiring. Maybe there is something I missed? Maybe something with the injectors?

There's a gremblin in there somewhere. I keep looking.

Idm to injectors is still 100% all wires have continuity and none are grounded out.

Have you tested your HPO pressure with a manual gauge? I assume the dealership would have done this, but I hate to assume.
