That code will cause the trans to slam on the shifts. When this (and many other) codes are set the trans goes into failure mode and the line pressure is set high to reduce the likelyhood of further damage. This causes the shifts to slam.

I'd love to hear how it could be a wire or the computer. In my experience it is always a mechanical fault inside the torque converter or the trans itself.

Just for grins and YOUR peace of mind.........I'd pull the "computer" and take a look inside and see if there's any sign of swollen or leaking capacitors.

Here's what you'd be looking for: A9x ECM's (and same years ECM's) Failures Due to Age

IIRC there was a TSB that had to do with the cab dome light screws shorting the circuit (I think it was the in cab #8 fuse circuit) .....critical for the PSOM operation to feed the "computer" the proper VSS signal. Like I said, IIRC.

My 94' had a similar symptom.......random check engine light, trans going into "limp mode", and it turned out to be my "tapping into" the fuse box under the dash # 8 circuit with a "tap in fuse connector" which made the fuse slot sloppy (the fuse fit loosely causing an intermittent connection) in the fuse holder.

Are there ANY aftermarket devices (stereo, GPS, alarm, etc.) that have been hooked up to the fuse boxe(s) or tapped into either under the dash or under the hood ???????

Also, I seem to recall way back when reading that someone had problems with the heavier yellow wires going to the back of their fuse boxes....could have been under the hood or under the dash, I can't remember. They had found severe corrosion UNDER their fuse boxes (heavier yellow wiring) and was a pretty simple process to fix.

Those are some things that, if I were you, would check.

Yes, I know you've got some codes, but just tryin' to toss out some ideas for you.

Bob

I have a '94 F150 with E4OD transmission that would act like you described. Over a year ago I replaced the "Neutral Safety Switch" or Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS) and connector. Picked the part from Autozone, and hasn't jumped (or slammed) since then.

Update! Thought I needed new tranny! Nope! Found ground wire off and wrong filter in transmission. Been a week and no slamming! Just an FYI.
