E40d transmission

E40d transmission
I have a 1993 ford f250 4x4 it has a E40d tranny sometimes it shifts hard and I will disconnect battery and its ok for a while but hard shifting comes back again can some one help me.

The E4OD transmission is 100% electronic controlled. The first step in troubleshooting almost any issue is checking for codes. This can be done with a paper clip or an inexpensive code reader.
Warm up the engine then do this: Fuel Injection Technical Library » How To Run a Self-Test
Or purchase a code reader such as the Equus 3145.
Note the codes, if any, and when they were displayed. It is highly suggested to run the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) tests and then watch for stored codes from Continuous Memory (CM). Once those codes are resolved, if necessary, then you can move onto the Key On Engine Running (KOER) tests. Your truck should display three digit codes.
Check for codes, then list them by number and when they were displayed. It will help everyone assist you with resolving your issue.
