Unhappy water leaking into cab on drivers side?

Water leaks into the cab and there is a stream that comes out from behind the gas pedal. Also it was wet at the base of the insulation under the dash and the drivers side floor board ends up with a big puddle of water.

I am thinking it is leaking somehow from under where the chrome trim is that is around the windshield or somewhere on the firewall, but I am not sure?

Anyone else have this problem and if so how have you fixed it?

Thank you!

Haven't had the windshield leak at the bottom, but did at the top. The mastic that holds the windshield dries out and cracks. But, I don't know that is your problem as the cowl can leak as well.

I would use a hose and run it in the cowl and see if it leaks. If not, run it on the windshield.

Yea, I was thinking that it may be the cowl well area also.
I will have to check it out; I had the cowl grating taken off for priming and it did look a little rough where the sealant is. I did not think anything of it though at the time...

I guess this sort of answers my question as well!

Thank you for your reply as well!

Yep, that's the thread to follow if it is the cowl. If it is the windshield's mastic you can use some of
this this
Worked well for me, but if you have rust instead of just a crack in the sealant the rust will continue and pretty soon you'll have a bigger problem.

I just had to repair my 87. The cowl rusted underneath the sealer allowing water to enter. Ended removing old sealer , patching the holes, and re-sealing. Also cleaned out the drains in the lower cab area.

Thanks for the replies!

I was going to try to reseal some of those same areas since mine are cracked pretty bad as well. I found that around where the grommets are near the brake booster like the one with the tachometer cable, etc; are causing the water leak issue big time. But with the truck being 30 it is probably leaking in those other areas too!

Manual trans makes me worry about firewall cracks. I was having some clutch issues, but also discovered leaks under cowl on the driver side. At first, I didn't think I had a firewall crack, but when I peeled the caulk away from the firewall reinforcement under the clutch master cylinder, I found a crack. The firewall movement allowed the seam sealer to crack and leak.

I don't know if that is the cause of the leak in your truck, but definitely check it out.

Thanks for the information I will check that out as well... It is still leaking from somewhere.. I saw one leak coming from behind the insulation just above where the brights switch is on the floor... Upper left area; might be leaking behind the fender from the seals?

Behind the "kick " trim, there is a plate held in place by 6 screws. Removing the plate gives access to a clean out area.
