That's one of the many reasons I'm getting the hell outta the state.
Looks like it won't be long, we will ALL be southern boyzzzz
Oregon BAN on PRIVATE Sales of Firearms
Private sales will be banned. All sales of modern firearms, with one exception, will have to go through an FFL dealer.
The Bloomberg anti-gunners are alive and well having made their transition from Washington State to The State of Oregon. They contributed at least $600,000 to our Legislative races and succeeded in replacing at least two pro-gun Senators with anti-gun Senators, one of which sits on the Senate Judiciary Meeting. https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Committees/SJUD/Overview
In today’s Oregon State Senate Session, SB941 was introduced that will ban the sales of firearms between private parties. A firearms dealer will be required to complete any firearms sale in Oregon with one exception being made for sales at gun shows as long as the background check is completed through a phone number provided by the Oregon State Police, which is current law.
We are facing a very tough battle here as Sen. Prozanski (Committee Chair & anti-gunner) has managed to add the biggest anti-gun zealot in the State, Sen. Burdick D Portland Dist. 18, to the committee. To be honest, with the 3 to 2 makeup of the committee, I see no way that the bill will not be sent to the Senate Floor for a vote.
SB 941, https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Downloads/MeasureDocument/SB941/Introduced will be introduced today, 03-26-2015, for "First Reading" in the Oregon State Senate. If it follows normal form, the Senate President will then assign the bill to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
SB 941 (3)(a) A transferor may transfer a firearm to a transferee only as provided in this section.
Both the transferor and the transferee must first appear in person before a gun dealer, with the firearm, and request that the gun dealer perform a criminal background check on the transferee.
This is the letter I sent out to be distributed to the local Sportsman's Association that I am a member of:

We need to write our Senators and Representatives and voice our opinion on this matter.

By the way, Sen. Prozanski who is a big pusher of these gun bills is from TEXAS! Wish he would go back! He has two "infamous" lines......
1. I am not anti-gun, I own guns!
2. "Prove it!"
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
They have fast tracked it so they can get it crammed down our throats with a minimum amount of time for us to prepare or build up opposition. Committee hearing 0800 Wednesday 04-01-15. "Work Session" where they will ... move it to the floor on 04-02-15. I'm going to try and be there in person for the hearing.

Those suckers! Sometime late this afternoon they changed the address for the mailed testimony to sjud.exhibits@state.or.us
They have also limited the hearing to just 2 hours from 0800 to 1000 on April 1st and the first 30+ minutes is reserved for "invited" testimony. Public testimony will be limited to 2 minutes per person.....they are cutting us off short. Several hearings so far have been carried over to a second day. It does not look like we will be afforded that opportunity.
The last 2 times they tried pushing this background check bill through they said the mail was running 300 opposed to the bill to every single one in support. Roblan (whose not on the Judiciary this year) lied right to my face, saying he was not going to support it and then the very next day voted with the other two dimocritters (sic intentional!)to move it to the floor.
So yes, I can tell you exactly how the vote to move the bill to the floor is going to be....Prozanski, Burdick and Gelser will vote to move it to the floor, Kruse and Thatcher will vote to kill it.
