Hey all! Brain picking time! So we messed with the truck yesterday and tried to get the timing a little closer, boy do I need a fricking timing light. Anyway the knocking has stopped. Of course it still runs like crap, but at least it is not knocking. I was messing with it just now, still no knock, but high idle, I suspect it is still too way advanced, because messing with the idle screw on the linkage did nothing. So I shut it off and well I am going to get a damn timing light lol But! why did it quit knocking? Is it okay now, maybe the way off timing was doing it?

Kat what year truck and engine is it? manual or automatic transmission?
you can pick up a basic timing light at the Eugene Harbor Freight tools for $19.99. If the throttle is at high the throttle plates are not allowing the idle screws to function until you get the RPM down. I take it you need a dwell tach meter as well?
Is it knocking when accelerating or dieseling when you shut it off?
Basically last week it died on me at a light, hard to start, finally got it going and when I got it home, it was knockng really loud, like a push rod knock. So I parked it for a few days until the weekend, so I could play with it. When I start it up, no more knock. it was odd. Dad is a snap on dealer, I think I am just going to hit him up lol
