I can see it coming!

Rumor has it the Raptor is getting a 3.5L EcoBoost. That EcoBeast they are advertisng is probably just going to be a patented thing and maybe used to rename the EcoBoost if nothing else. I probably would not want anything smaller than the 5.0L Coyote in the Super Duty and have it with 4.30s.
It could be a 5.0L Twin Turbo they want to bring out.

From what I heard EcoBeast was going to be a patent name so they might not use it. Or they might just use it to get rid of the EcoBoost badge and put an EcoBeast badge in its place.
Bust should an EcoBoost engine be placed in these large trucks? Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should. Unless its a large V6 or a V8 both purpose built for these trucks I don't think it'll be such a good idea. But I've only towed with a 5.4L V8 and a 4.0 OHV. What these trucks are capable of might be too much for EcoBoost to handle over the long haul. In my mind the engine would over heat while towing 30K lbs. V8 or a large V6 might work but the fuel economy probably won't be very good compared to the 6.2L that's in there now.

I've got a few thousand miles behind a 6.2 powered SD and my thoughts are; the 6.2 is fine and will get your job done but if ford boosted it with some kind of boosted intake (blower or turbo) it would change from "well, it got us here" to "dang, this thing is awesome".
Now, doesn't matter to me if it's the 3.5, 4.8, 5.0, 5.2, or 6.2 engine. Normally aspirated engines do not tow medium to large trailers as well as their boosted versions would.

Ford absolutely needs to make the SD with the 3.5 EB option. I would get one right away. Similar power of the 6.2 w/a better torque curve. Lots more power than the 5.4 they used to stick in there back in '99. With a lighter SD coming and increased power numbers on the 3.5 it seems like it is inevitable.
