How to care for sitting turbo?

I have an 04 6.0 that has been sitting for about 6 months waiting for repairs. I understand this is not good for the turbo. It probably will sit another month or two before I get it fixed. Is there anything I can do to care for the turbo during this time? I can't start the engine. Maybe it's already too late? What problems can I expect?

sounds like not much you can do. unless you take it off and rebuild while it is down and a fresh one to put in when ready. Especially if those repairs involve pulling it

I think that short trips are harder on them than just sitting. A cold engine can have quite a bit of moisture in the exhaust for the first 10-15 minutes and it can rust the unison ring and guide vanes. That being said, letting it just sit can do the same but to a lessor degree.

I would prepare for a turbo cleaning session (which is what I believe that firedaniel suggested when he said "rebuild").

There are many videos on cleaning the 6.0L turbos (VGT system).

Pull it clean it and keep in a dry warm environment until your ready to put it back together. Or plan on pulling it when you do the work. Is it humid where the truck is sitting? If it hasn't been cleaned before or for awhile it won't hurt it to be cleaned.

I would run it after fixing it and go from there. You might not need to do anything

Suppose it depends on what "repairs" the OP is waiting on.

If the engine is torn down, might as well clean the turbo.

If the repairs are bodywork or suspension, then yeah, wait it out and give it a good rip after a warm up.

My truck sat for over a year with no ill effects to the turbo. When I got it running I put one of the ScanGaugeII settings to VGT, monitored it, and listened for the whistle. Side note I did not leave it open always kept the inlet covered.
