Whats the word on double din radio install kits? Whats the nice looking trim kits to get? The metra's look like they might be a little short and might leave a gap?
Look at the American International kit - problem is I think they quit making them very recently. I'm sure places still have them in stock.
I used Metra 95-5817 on mine and while it does slide into place with the trim installed, it locks in so solidly you cannot remove it from the trim again unless you pull the entire thing off and unscrew the side plates off the radio first.
Also note you will need to modify that trim panel. There is a lip all the way around the opening and you need to cut off THE TOP AND BOTTOM ONLY.

Thanks, do you happen to have a pic of one installed? I did find this kit and it does look like a nice finish as long as it fits the dash right.

Crappy installed pic
Thanks for the pic! I have seen these and read about them and I do like the rolled edges but to me it looks as though the rolled edges have a "missing" section at the top? Can you get a better pic of the filler pieces on the sides of the radio and how they fit the dash?
I don't mind having to pull the dash piece out to get the radio out. It is very easy to do.
I like how it's symmetric and doesn't extend beyond the face of the dash. Although you do have to pull the dash to get access to it. That adds about 6 seconds to the removal process.
That Metra kit looks just as good as the American International kit. The metra I'm not a fan of is the one that only goes on the left and the right and has the curved sides (model: 95-5817) (see gots_a_sol's post)
For those of you with the Metra installed, which model is it? 95-5600?

Ok I just went through all of this. The Metra 95-5817 is the kit with the rolled edges. This is the kit they recommend when you buy a double din for our units. But the Metra 95- 5818 is the one with the nice flush edges witch I prefer. I just ordered a new deck and both kits because I wasn't sure if the 95-5818 would work in a excursion or not. I think they recommend it for a 99-03 superduty. Probably the same I would think. Good luck.
