One on the front and one on the rear. The front one is on all the time then when you put it in reverse the rear one is displayed. The front one is the best b/c you can pull into parking spaces and get within 6" of the car in front.
Just FYI for those that need a power wire for reverse sensing, the rear view mirror (if you have an auto dim mirror) gets power on one of the three wires when you go into reverse. I used it to power a stand alone monitor that I installed beside the mirror. My camera was wireless and gets power from the rev lights. I have the camera mounted on the licence plate. It's a bit low.
Some thing mid way would be better. But if you need a rev power wire the one at the rear view mirror works well. Its easy to find. Pull the connector. One is ground. One is powered normally, one gets power in reverse. So it turns on my
when i get mine i seal them with clear silicon and they hold up good here, and its NASTY here to cars. i do have to wipe the road grime off the lense allot.
There's a new one out with better night vision but I have some crazy backup lights so it actually looks like daylight when I back up... It keeps me from backing into stuff and I have it aimed at the top of my hitch ball so I can line up to my trailer hitch perfectly every time.
Unless you're planning to drive at speed in reverse I don't see any utility in a high resolution/expensive backup camera. As long as it clearly shows obstacles it's job is done.
Mine is wired to come on automatically when I switch into reverse and is displayed on a Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT.
Snow, Im very interested in what you will end up doing. I've been debating this for some time but havent done much research. I like OEM type installations and bulletproof results. I know whatever you do will be along this line. Keep us posted. Thanks.
if you find a way to keep snow ice dirt and other stuff off the camera i would be interested. ours is usless this time of year unless we wipe it off before using.
I will for sure keep you guys in the loop on the outcome and project.
I am just waiting for my dvd/navi double din to show up so I can power it up and check the camera I have right now one more time just to be sure I know what I have. lol
I will have it wired to the reverse lights so the camera comes on when put in reverse. I may put in a switch to manually turn it on as well.
I do have plans to have a second camera on the back of the TT as well that I can connect by the trailer plugs for backing up the TT and also checking in on the boat while traveling because othherwise I only see the boat while taking turns.
I am very interested in a clean install that is reliable. I have seen a install where the camera was installed next to the handle on the rear window. Any info on that install? Thanks.

Whats the word on double din radio install kits? Whats the nice looking trim kits to get? The metra's look like they might be a little short and might leave a gap?

I am installing one right now including backup camera, blue tooth mic, sub woofer with amp, and sirius xm. Not done but the Metra fit looks good with the JVC (Arsenal KW-V200BT) head unit I bought. Only thing I don't like is the entire dash piece / instrument cluster surround will have to come out if I have issues down the road. I will post pics when done, hopefully by Friday.
