Was wondering is there anyway of turning on when not in reverse.
have a 2011 FX4 and was sitting in the truck waiting for the wife one day, and was just wondering why I should not be able to turn on anytime.

I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn last night, so my theory should not be taken as that of an expert. It would seem that its a safety feature so that a person isn't putting thier attention into whats going on behind them instead of what is in front of them while driving. To cover all the bases they only allow it be operational while the vehicle is in reverse.

Agreed. You can't watch a DVD on the GPS screen while driving down the road, so constantly watching a rear view camera would be equally distracting.

I've looked into this... I have an XLT, so mine is in the mirror. You'd just need to apply constant power to the camera and the mirror display.

Before anyone complains... my rear-view mirror is non-functional due to a commercial topper on the back.

I don't believe you, you must have stayed in a Holiday Inn!
I think you are correct, it's a safety issue. And I think it makes sense. I have to admit that I have thought about it myself, but really, it would just be for me to play around with it. No real use that I could think of.

You could try FORD LOCKPICKS

It allows you to do that very thing I believe...not to mention adding other cameras to your truck etc.

Anybody know if it is possible to add the camera to a truck that doesn't have one? I have the cool mirror and apparently the wiring harness, curious if it's a simple matter of getting the camera and done?

Yes if you purchase the Ford Lockpick they also have cameras they sell...you can add one to the front even one inside say pointed at a baby seat if you desire. Take a look at their site.

I agree with you but was just wondering since there seems to be away around everything, like when I turned my seat belt chime off ( buckling and unbuckling so many times), of course its a safety issue but I don't need a chime telling me to put my seat belt on driving across my property.

first thing me and my brother did before we left the lot. We drive around at our job without seat belts on (pipe yard) and it gets annoying really fast.
