I'm currently in the process of planning out a stroker motor build.
I'm taking a 390 block and going to 445 most likely with one of Barry's kits from Survival Motorsports.
My question lies in what pistons to order. It sounds like dish tops give me a little less than 10:1 and flats in the neighborhood of 11:1.
Now I always thought 11:1 was right around the max with pump gas and I should be safe with a yummy cam.
I would like to here from others what they think before I order.

Thanks!

My 428 cj has 10.6:1 and will handle 91 octane if I don't get crazy with the timing.

what's your plans for truck ? drag race or part time hauling ?
if using as truck I would go the dish and deck the block a little to get at 10:1

Truck is setup as a street toy with the occasional strip action.
It use to be more of a daily but its a weekend toy now.
My goal is to get the best compression ratio for the given fuel to get the most out of it. Its not that I'm looking for every last bit of horse power, but I'd like the most for my buck. And the price doesn't really change depending on the pistons I order.

That sounds like something the wife would tell me. Way too much to guess at.

Your wife must be a lovely person to talk too then.

I'm trying to learn if a 11.1 ratio is doable on 93 octane

Guys at my machine said I wouldn't really be able to get away with more than 9.8:1 on 91 octane on iron heads. That's most of what I can find around here. 93 is few and far between so can't rely on it. Wish we had M85

I'm running the 91 with 10.6:1 but have installed hardened valve seats which I'd recommend no matter what the cr your running.

Havent been on here in forever. so I ended up scrapping that whole idea with my compression ratio. i put those ported Iron heads on a 390 instead at 10:1. had all new exhaust seats and valve guides installed and new SS valves all around. for the stroker moter i still havent assembled it, but I ended up getting a set of Edelbrock Aluminum heads for it lol

How does the 10:1 work for you? What cam are you using?
