I got the feeling I better ask this one more time before I really screw up.... I can't quite decide from reading posts.
I am having 400 rebuilt with flat top pistons and the compression ratio is gonna come out between 9.1 and 9.5
Can I run 87 octane pump gas in this motor?
Or do I need to get the normal 8.5 pistons?
Its not too late for me to change my mind. Im not sure I want to be using high test fuel. Im daily and 1500 lbs pull a few times a year for a short distance.
Well you may have to run one step better the regular, But Compression ratio isn't the deciding factor to what octane fuel you'll have to use. Camming is one of the biggest factors. With the right cam you can run a higher compression ratio due to the bleed off of the overlap in valve timing. But then you'll be in NASCAR Territory here.
Here's my 2 cents
Build it, Drive it, Have Fun you only live once. If you have to run Premium then run Premium....
