Well I just saw a news article that here in good old Ca. a new fuel tax tied to cap and trade goes into effect on Jan. 1. Initially it will be 10 cents a gallon, 13 for diesel, but it is on a sliding scale, tied to what I have no idea, but according to the article it can go as high as 75 cents/gal. Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the water.
If it's Kalifornia and related to a slide, that means it's going to go downhill fast. I bet in the next year or two they're discussing if the cap should only be 75¢
Just hit $2.99 on the east side of Panama City FL but its still $3.20-$3.50 over by Destin and Fort Walton.
Wouldn't ya know the one year I can't get to FL the price drops!! If I make it next year you watch prices off the scale! Just can't win!!
$2.99 around this neck of the woods!!
I know the gas company sets the price not the gas station. But after I paid $2.75 I was on my way home and 15 miles after filling up I passed a station selling diesel for $3.79. A $1.04 difference..,..
Our local (small) Sunoco "truckstop" is at $3.14 as of yesterday, I'll bet my friends at Glover oil in Melbourne are below $3 for B99.9 right now!
I can't get over the Pilot truck stops....they have a sticker on the Diesel pumps that indicate 20% BIO-Diesel, THEY charge MORE for the blend than regular #2 diesel fuel.....I HAVE bought B-99.9 from Glover Oil for as much as .36 per gallon less than the Sunoco was charging for regular #2
Paid $3.16 yesterday in NE Cal. before the new tax that starts today. As far as the truck stops go, Pilot etc. on I-5 were all about 30 cents MORE than in little old podunk Burney, 50 miles to the East??
How can people afford to live in California with the state taxing everything? No more plastic bags, extra fuel tax.... Not to mention the fact CA has no water, high dollar property and what seems like plenty of people who don't pay any tax.
Living in Oklahoma I can't imagine all the red tape.
Now I read my egg prices are going up because California requires the chickens producing eggs sold in CA must have an individual cage so they can flap their wings.
I can understand why a farmer wouldn't just exclude California sales like gun dealers do and let CA find their own eggs.
The CA state gov can do all they want to make CA citizens hate life, but keep it in the CA borders and away from me.
I know the gas company sets the price not the gas station...
Sort of, mostly. Back in '98-99 or so, we had a little price war going on in south Jersey when the local oil branded gas stations (Exxons, Sunocos, etc.), got permission to sell stuff like milk, bread, and eggs. A local convenience chain, Wawa, complained and wanted to start selling gas. The oil companies fought them for the permits, and delayed Wawa's new business by over a year.
When Wawa, which is a dairy business, finally won, who do you think they bought their gas from? Those same oil companies, and those oil companies competitively bid for Wawa's business. So Wawa got even for the long delay by selling the gas for practically no profit whatsoever, driving the oil branded gas stations just about out of business. I was paying as low as 55¢ / gal for gas, while the oil branded stores were stuck with their contract around 75-80¢ / gal.
Wawa, and all independents, will typically have lower prices for exactly that reason. Fuel products are so highly controlled these days, I'm not worried about getting "cheap gas" like my Dad was growing up.
Holy moly I just got diesel for a $1.79 a gallon granted it is at the distributor but still.
On another note I asked them how cold their diesel is rated for and they said they have never gotten that question before. They also said people tell them that it does not get cold enough for long enough in Oklahoma to make a difference. I beg to differ since I gelled three times last year. They do add diesel clean so it should be fine but I think they are confused. I still went ahead and added what I normally do just to be safe it is supposed to get down to 6 tonight
