A friend of mine has a 2012 Cab and Chassis F350 4X4 that he bought used. It has 105,000 miles on it and has been acting really weird lately. While driving, the traction control, brake light and check engine light will all come on then go off. Today the transmission was acting really strange it shifted from 1st to 3rd and totally skipped 2nd. I thought I would see if anyone else has experienced anything similar. It sounds like electrical issues or maybe a ground problem to me.
On a few of the older Superduty trucks the wire harness that travels from up around the steering wheel and down the column would wear at the point where the tilt breaking point of the "tilt steering column" is at.
I had this issue which took many trips back and forth to the dealership before they called Ford with reporting the issue looking or assistance. The actual wear in the electrical harness was not much larger than a pin head. But large enough to cause some crazy things to happen.
Not saying that this is your problem, but it was mine.
He bought the truck this past month so I don't know when the transmission was serviced last but something to look into. It had intermitent starting/electrical problems when he first bought it so I load tested the batteries and they both tested bad so replaced them both with Interstate's. I figured the bad batteries were causing the strange electrical problems but after changing them they have reappeared.
Besides under the steering column are there other places I should check wiring harnesses? Has anyone had problems with connectors being loose? It was a North Dakota oil field truck so anything is possible. It has an insane amount of hours for the miles. One other thing displayed on the dash when its acting weird is "check brake system". Originally the radio didn't work now one day it started working.
I also had to replace the blower fan as it was completely toast. The wheel had somehow rubbed up against the top and mostly shredded itself. I had to get the part from Ford as none of the auto part stores around here could get one.
Its a F350 Crew cab dually XL chassis cab with a flat bed on it.
