I run coolant and oil bypass filters on my 04. Did have high deltas a couplpe of years back so drained and flushed and then took the truck out again. No changes, Yes I had gold in the system. I took the filter off and NO grit or Sand, but lots of snot! So took truck in for new egr, new cooler, guy opened the engine up and said it was ne of the cleanest he had ever worked on. BTW could not get the side pugs off, he had to buy a special tool to do so. Anyhow the oil stays cleaner longer, adds about 2 qts to the system, and the coolant is now Cat ELC and I have no issues. I would actually recommend both. Only thing is the only oil bypass filter is from amsoil and they are costly! I change mine every other oil change but do catch all the dirty oil prior to reinstalling the cap on the fill tube. The coolant filter is a fabbed one from napa and I run their filters. Have opened them up and never find anything in them, but it is cheap insurance and so I keep it on. Not fancy aluminum, plain ol cast iron as found on big rigs tucked up out of way so is not eye candy on either one.
Just wish there was an alternate oil filter as these do cost a lot. Last ones were about $45 each!
