Gas sending float size, and body boot on 54

I'm starting to put my new fuel tank back in my '54, but have a couple parts not sure I got the correct size from LMC truck. The replacement float, for the original sending unit is smaller in diameter than the old one. I don't think I should have to bend the old arm to make it fit. Also the fuel neck to body boot fits the hole ok, but doesn't cover the whole flat recess in the body where the boot is. I already threw the old one away, maybe it didn't either. How do you keep the tank insulating rubber on the mounting straps while installing, glue it or just push it into place after setting the tank in.

The O1A-9202 fuel tank sending unit float used 1940/56 on cars/trucks is larger in diameter than the C0AZ-9202-B (replaced B7A-9202-A) float used on 1957/79 cars/trucks, 1961/79 Econolines & 1966/79 Bronco's.

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 4 of the O1A-9202 floats = 229-686-5101.

I ordered a new float today from Midfifly, they specify larger float for original units, so hopefully it will fit better.

When I had my truck painted in 1999 I ordered a new gas filler boot or rubber. It was smaller than the original and didn't cover the opening like it should have, like you stated. I sent it back and Armour-Alled my old one and put it back on. Too bad you threw yours away. I don't know if there are other manufacturers of them or if they all come from the same place. Maybe call around and see if some have a larger size.
