Steering line leak

Alright gents (I haven't seen any ladies on here yet),

I crawled under the engine today and saw some fluid. I'm not certain if it was brake fluid.

The line runs up to the steering fluid reservoir. I've attached

images.

It's the connection by the bottom serp belt wheel (I think).

You're help would be appreciated.

The questions are: do I need a new line? Does it look like this is a leak at the joint? Is this wheel attached just a serp wheel, or does it move some steering parts too?

Just found this schematic on the interweb. Now I'm thinking it's the power steering pump, or one (or both) of the attached hoses.

Anyone with experience in this? It's cold here in Minnesota. Would the hoses go, or is there a way to tell if it's the pump.

Usually the suction line doesnt leak, the pressure side has a teflon seal on it that usually leaks, the line will have some wiggle to it, this is normal, the pully is pressed on, needs the puller to slide off shaft and a press adapter to reinstall, to get at the fitting for this line. If the pully has a white mark or some mark on the face, it has been pulled before, normally mechs will mark it if it was pulled before, pulled twice is usually max as more times will create slippage per say. I would spray the pump down with brake cleaner and run it to see if its the line or the shaft seal.If its the pump I would change the line as well, make sure to spin the pully for a while to get fluid flowing, as a dry start will damage pump, put front end off ground and turn lock to lock a dozen times to push air out. merc 5 is preferred. good luck

Altho it is not "good", it is not uncommon to see dampness around the steering pump and hoses. Could be a seal, could be someone dripped when filling the steering or engine oil. Agree it needs to be washed down good and monitor. It may be a minimal problem.

You guys are brilliant.

I've been monitoring this issue and it is as Steve said, minimal...for the meantime....

Checking my steering fluid levels...they've barely moved. I'm going to wait this one out for a warm Christmas day, when I have more money!
