hey all: replaced my power steering pump on a 78f-250 awhile back thinking that was the problem.it's leaking fluid all the time.have to check it every 4 days or so.it's coming from the connection to the pump.thought i tightened it down pretty good.still leaking.pretty good.puddles eveywhere i go.should my next step be replacing the pressure line ??? or can i put plumbers tape on it and be o.k. i'm thinking a new pressure line. forgot but is their a rubber seal on the line too? should i replace that instead.i give up.someone give me a hand.thanks for the help in the past......been looking at some toyota boards for the toyota solara.so far they stink.this is the best in town....NO DOUBT....they can learn something from here...thanks....joezee
RokCrusher's right. If you look closely at the Fitting where the leak is, you'll see the threaded end on the line is cracked. Right around the flange. Replace the line and your problem is sloved.
When the fitting finally gives up, the line will exit the pump, and the pump will put all that stinky oil out onto your hot engine.
You wont get your wife in that smelly truck for months.;-)
gentlemen: thanks.i'll do just that in the afternoon.sounds like my best bet.just get tired of putting money into it every time i drive it.so much for older trucks....but it does run very strong.....thanks..joe
Regular maintenance and upkeep are much easier on the older stuff if you just keep up with it, it does take some $$ innitally to get someone elses mess tidyed up, but then like I said its all regular routene maintenance, and that beats a FAT payment book and a RICE BURNER in your driveway!!!!
