LEAKY WINDOW

Hey all,
I have a 2001 f150 supercrew, and the rear window leaks like crazy when it rains. Has anyone else had or still have this problem? What did it take to fix it and approx. how much?

Common problem.
The seal around the back window has gone bad. You need to remeve the rear window (not too hard) and replace the window sealant.
Use some 3m Window Weld butyl tape (do not use the liquid stuff in a tube).

Why spend $100+ when you can spend $20 and a few hours doing it yourself.
Were not all made of money.

LOL...I ran a bead of 100% clear silicon across the top and down 5" on both sides on my old 98 just to get me by until spring. It kept the water out for 8 years and still didn't leak when I sold it. Not the correct fix, but it worked.

You got lucky, most that do that still have a leak plus have that mess to clean up along with it.

The tube urethane works fine, just get the 3M window weld. It works. Theres a tutorial on you tube of the removal of the rear window... it takes the user four hours, it only takes 15 mins. Cleaning off the old sealent is the longest step,, its a pia.

Prep sufaces with alcohol or similar, and get a monkey to help with install. Wear nitrile gloves, and dont get that urethane on your butt like I did, I now have a stain on my seat!!!!!

And be careful removing the rear plastc molding. . Its like $550 for a new one!!!!!

window can be removed without removing the outside trim. You have to remove the trim around the head linger to get the window bolts out. I have used the butyl strip to do the job. There is a kit that you buy (auto zone) specifically for the job. Original is butyl from the factory, but was not installed correct.

I took my exterior trim off to check the seams all over, because my leak was so large.
Yes it was the window only, I could have done it wo removing the trim...
I just couldnt believe that big of a leak was just the window. But yeah, its just the dammned window seal, a 1 inch section was completely unattached from the body of the cab. It appeared to have been for quite awhile.

Yes the tube stuff works, but it is a huge mess and can get everywhere. the butyl tape is not messy and seals well.
Mine was about 1" also.
