Hey guys thanks again for all the help! I've got a 64 f100 with a 292 with a stock 2bbl carb on it.. The motor starts and idles very good but when I give it gas it acts like it wants to die.. is this something as simple as a carb adjustment or something more? It was running great a few days ago and then it just started acting up.. Any help and advice is appreciated!
What have you done? Have you checked all the basic tune up stuff?
Check your plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, points, condenser, fuel filter.
If you have a stock manual fuel pump remove canister and change the fuel filter.
After that is done report back with any issues you may still have.
First, with it idling I'd look down the carb throat and manually increase the throttle and see if you can see fuel being pumped in. Might eliminate some possibilities.
These same symptoms are quite often fixed by replacing the condenser in the distributor. Easy and cheap thing to try. Sometimes brand new ones are even seemingly bad.
sounds like a fuel restrictions, i would start with checking the fuel filter.
I agree with you on that one.. It acts like its starving for fuel. It's got a new fuel pump, new plugs, new wires, new cap and rotor, and other stuff I'm forgetting. Could a there be a possibility of the choke not operating correctly?

my guess is still a pluged fuel filter, will it idle fine and not stall until you give it fuel? also like someone else mentioned take off the air breather while its running & rev it up , you should be able too see if the fuel is restricted by looking inside the carb while reving the engine. hope this helps Mike
Did you reset your float height after fuel pump replacement? Pull a plug or two and look for fouling.
Do you have a vacuum gauge yet, btw? If you want to work on 50 year old tech you NEED one. They are cheap and you're throwing all kinds of parts at it , so no more excuses!
If it dies when you try to come off idle, the first thing I would do is shut it off, pull air cleaner, with choke open I would look down the carp and open the throttle quickly and make sure there is gas being squirted into the carb. If not the first place I would look is the accelerator pump. Maybe the diaphragm has ruptured on it.
Skidoorulz has a good idea. Here's a good link for making sure carb is setup correctly. A quick shot of gas from accelerator pump keeps bogging monster away, but has to be adjusted.
do you have a spacer for you carb? i think i read one post where that was the problem.
The missing carb spacer was an issue with boiling the gas in the float chamber when the engine was warmed up (hot) and I don't think this fella is getting that far. If it's doing it from a cold engine then I don't think that would be it. Here's that thread.
Alright I took off the air filter and looked down inside the carb (engine running) and I gave it gas while watching to see what happened.. Gas initially squirts out and then just stops after a second, that's when the engine starts to die.. Excuse the ignorance but is this normal? It doesn't seem right to me cause no fuel is coming out
i really shouldn't respond to these if i have nothing useful to say, but i can't help myself. my guess is that someone will point you back to the pump and filter.
The accelerator pump is supposed to give a quick shot of extra gas just as the throttle is opened. It is adjustable. When you bring the throttle off idle, you should see two squirts of gas and then no more.
I just put a brand new pump on it and all new fuel lines 2 months ago.. I'm about to go check and make sure none of my lines are kinked when I get a chance
