Bought a package deal set of new leaf springs all the way around and they include new shocks too.
The invoice listed Nitro Slammers but they were back ordered and the guy said he'd sub some better ones and they sent KYB Gas-A-Just mono tubes. OK, fine whatever but there are none listed that fit 64 that I can find.
I wrote KYB and asked, and they said their only listing for 64 F100 is KG5615, for the front. Those can't be correct either, because the 64 takes a bayonet style mount on both ends. So, KG5419 and KG5429 are now on hand and "look" right - but there's more to it than that pretty sure. Is it this a big a deal, these guys know what they are doing - or am I going to have to return these?
As it happens I had a set of Monroes or Gabriels that are OEM style, not as fancy will work. I compared them and these gas shocks look like they will physically fit. What am I missing?
You may want to double check the KG5419 for your application. I just put new KYBs on my truck last month and the fronts were KG5419 for my application but I have a 65 with the twin I-beams. I guess the question is does a 64 with solid axle use the same KYB shock as a 65 with I-beams. My rears were KG5406.
Yeah, I already triple checked, if you count here. That's why I'm asking! Doesn't make sense, KYB doesn't have any shocks for the 64, except as they indicated and it doesn't appear to be correct either.
I had a hard time figure out what to go with also. I ordered Rancho 5000 series, the front are Rancho 5014 showing bayonet on both ends and the rear are Rancho 5116.
Hell, I have a 1962 F100, and I just went to Autozone and bought my Gabriel shocks from them, had to order them, but then the one I took off the truck were made by Montgomery Wards. Sometime, you local auto parts have parts that work and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Works for me!
The rear KYBs (5429) fit fine and work good. The front pair they provided however, were too short. I installed a pair of Monroes or something like that.
