using shocks from a different truck.

This may be a silly question, but here it goes...

I have a 1963 f100 with as far as i know, the original shocks. They need to be replaced and a good friend of mine recently lifted his truck and got new shocks. He has a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 and he knew i needed shocks, so he just gave me his old ones.

He said if they fit, use them. if not, throw them away. I think they are a little long, but i found that i can compress them very easily with just a little effort and im sure that i could make them fit.

Is there anything wrong with doing this?

I know shocks are cheap and i am being cheap here, but they are in pretty good shape and are certainly better than what is on there now.

Are they longer than stock when both are fully compressed? If so that would rule them out for me.
If they are good they would be difficult to compress quickly. If easy to compress they may be worn.
However, again, if when both are fully compressed and the Dodge ones are longer then you risk bent/broken shock mountings.
It`s your decision.
