That is one thing about hooking to the sled or running the drag strip...if I break it's a bad thing lol but that probably won't stop me from trying.

Maybe i should get around to posting the videos i have of me on the strip last year. That should change your guys mind bout getting out there to. 4wd hi 1st gear lounches with mud tires. And its free to do it too. You pull all that weight when you haul, a couple runs wont hurt...... (Peer pressure).

Sorry JP, I called last Thursday and reserved that spot. If you hurry though, I bet you can still get a spot on "OBS Alley".

I was determined that I wasn't going to run the strip for fear of breaking something, then I realized that if I did I was around a bunch of guys who could get me going again. So I said to heck with it and made some passes.

This year, bring that thing out of the hole in 2nd gear. Taking off in 1st gear was killing you from the videos I remember seeing of you. In my 2wd, I leave the line in 3rd gear, but my dual disc allows me to slip on the clutch and keep the RPMs up around 2500-3000 until I'm far enough out that I can get off the clutch without the tires going up in smoke. I usually had to slip the clutch around 60ft or so and when I finally came off the clutch my RPMs would drop down around 2000-2200 then I could finally go full throttle. Byron felt what my truck is like if I go ahead and come off the clutch in 3rd gear at 4000 RPM and he about lost his mind when the tires went up.

Since you have a single disc. Come out of the hole in 2nd around 2000 RPMs. Don't pop the clutch, ease off it with moderate throttle to keep the RPMs around 1500ish until you can come off the clutch and give it the beans.

I think Gabe's biggest issue was that he wasn't getting the clutch to bite when he was launching in second. He was just roasting it. He knows he needs more clutch for the power he is putting down. Starting in first was the only way he was able to get it to jump without just slipping the clutch. If he had a stickier clutch in it, I agree though, skipping first would make a big difference. It makes a difference in how aggressive you can be when you have to drive the truck several hundred miles to get home too, lol.

Neal was helping him get his technique down and he was able to make great progress before the end of the session when we got rained out. Gabe will know better what he was seeing in the cab, but at least that's what I was able to gather by talking to him afterwards.

If it wouldn't hold taking off in 2nd, but would hold in first.. My best guess is he was trying to slip his single disc at full throttle or close to it. You have to take off just slightly more aggressive than you would on the street for a kevlar/ceramic clutch to hold it. If you slip it at high RPMs it will heat up almost instantly and slip. Obviously Gabe needs to jump aboard the band wagon and get a ceramic dual disc.
