Stinky is in the shop tomorrow, I will have them set the alignment with the specs from this thread and verify the condition of the front bearings. They found the first set of bad bearings, but another shop installed them. The track bar bushings are going in, because they look rough and it's the last of the old parts up there - and yes, I noticed a new obnoxious noise on the left when going over bumps this summer. I never looked into it before. I'm also having a radiator flush and fill - to rid myself of the last remnants from the oil cooler rebuild. They will have a good look at the motor mounts, but I have my doubts on that one.
I have a strong suspicion that this could be a case of the wrong alignment specs coupled with a new style of tire that doesn't forgive that, but we'll see.
The track bar bushings and sway bar end links SHOULD rid the clunk under ur foot.
Hope (not for ur wallet ) that the hub bearings are bad. If so if you have the option TIMKINS !!!!!
Tacoma is a hop and a skip for the Stink, he'd be eager to hop and skip to meet you. My family lives 20 minutes to the north, on both sides of the Sound. I'd gladly let you "test drive" Stinky without charge (well... maybe a cup-o-jo ), and you can give the TNT tune a whirl... if you don't already have it by then.
I'm cooling my jets on this project, I allowed myself to get wound up pretty tight - at the expense of offending a friend. We'll see what we see today, but what parts we have, we have... and that's it for now.
IT'S FIXED! Some of it was weird, some of it was stupid (on my part). I learned you can't be sure both hubs are unlocked just because they are set to Auto and you spin the front driveline by hand. I ran over some debris some time back and it knocked a few things out of place. The bushings are in and the driver-side noise is gone when I hit railroad tracks. Cody's alignment specs are now in the front end and the steering feels better.
Minutes after they finished the work, a storm dumped a few inches on the road, so I got a chance to try the front with 4WD active. Even in 4WD, it drives like a Cadillac with a rough suspension. I'm so freaking done. I'm just gunna burn some fuel through that smooth-runnin' machine for a while, and check back much later.
Thank you for the apology but honestly it isn't needed. I was kinda feeling that I owed you apology for throwing things out there that had already been gone over and were mute points. It is hard to keep track of the issues that have been resolved or are non issues with Stinky.
I took no real offense to what you said I just felt like a dog with his tail between his legs. But we are all good !! Honestly I do think of you like a brother and friend. You have always taken the time to help me and deal with some of my stupid questions. And as with any friend you help each other out if you can. As a brother we share a bond that can only be explained as " We're Family" and you take the good with the bad.
I am so happy you were able to get those issues resolved.
Enjoy driving Stinky you deserve it !!!
Glad to hear Rich! Hope your drive is going smooth and hope the wind isn't pushing you all over the place but with that nice new front end of yours you should be fine.
Wind, rain, snow, ice, freezing rain - it's all coming at us, but Stinky's got it covered. 16 MPG with a mix of climbing, slow, and 4WD - and high altitude with 2WD.
