Under the right circumstances it could be . Run a compression test to rule out a compression issue.
Then do a cylinder balance test; relative compression; pulse width comparison.
You have a few possibilities to test for.
Ouch I feel your pain. Even with new piston and rings doesn't mean you couldn't have broken one during install. I have rebuilt thousands of engines in my 53 years of wrenching on diesels, but now and then I still break one.

Ok but would it show up 4 months later. After 4 new injectors dummy plugs and stc fitting. I am at the point of suingthe used car dealer I bought this truck from for all the money out of my pocket so far plus this next repair. The dealer did the rebuild on the engine and I have found out that there were a few things they did not replace when doing the rebuild such as injectors, dummy plugs stc fitting oil cooler even though they did the egr cooler but not the oil cooler and that has gone out as well and need to be replaced and I have a puddle of coolent under my truck as well
I wonder if they miched the cylinders that one mebe needed to be sleved and not just re-ringed.
More then likely they did not mic it. I will be updating tomorrow after the shop lets me know what's wrong with it then I will be going to the court house and filing in small claims court against the dealer
Your taking it back to the same shop each time?
After 2 screw-ups I would be elsewhere and they
would be getting a bill. Is it a Ford shop?
I see you in Ca. What part? If you near Hemet I
would go to Diesel Tech Ron and have him look at it.
If you not near then let us know you location and someone
will know of a good one near you.

Not the same shop as the first time around with the hot start issue. It's the second shop that fixed the hot start issue. They are a really good shop and specialize in 6.0's. I will be doing the work mysel as I just don't have the money to pay a shop right now. new oil cooler and new #2 injector.
