I have started a top end rebuild on my 76 scs with a 460. New valve grind, extreme energy cam, performer manifold to go along with the edelbrock 750 carb and headrs already there.
I always assumed i had the duraspark ignition, since it has a module on the fender. However when i took her all apart the distributor has points, and module wiring. So not really sure what i have and if i should upgrade? Any opinions?
Towing machine/wood hauler so duraspark would be great if thats what i have...
A picture of the inside of the distributor would help id your ignition.
I had a '74 F-100 with a 390 that had an early Duraspark system with a small cap and 7mm plug wires, like your picture. Not sure when Ford went to the larger cap and 8mm wires.
Fwiw, the larger cap, with it's adapter and rotor will fit the older distributors.
Hmm... well i did pull off the cap, has a rotor with what i thought was points to the wires. But this might just be an early model duraspark, before going to the wide cap.
Definitely Duraspark.....looks exactly like my 76 SCS. But I have upgraded it to the larger cap and rotor as found on the 78-79's which will also require changing the water outlet neck to the angled variety so the dizzy parts have room. This will also allow you to use 8mm wires which I prefer it due to the way the plug wires snap onto the towers on the cap.
