Trying to get parts together to upgrade to the BIG distributor cap & 8mm wires on a 1970 I6, what year should I ask for at my parts store to do this, I've already got a pertronix in the distributor in place of points, also any recomendations on a hotter coil without going overboard???? Thanks!!!
Do I have to change distributors?? I was under the impression that I could just buy the "adapter" clamp it on in place of the small cap, then attach the big cap & go on, like you can with V8s.
Supercab, I think you can get the adapter, top, and rotor for the Duraspark ignition, and it will work on yours.
Be careful on the choice of coils with the Pertronix. If you get one that is much over 40K volts, it will have too much current flow for the Pertronix to handle. You need one that has over 1.5 ohms resistance (I think that's the right value) between the terminals. Pertronix makes one called the "Ignitor", that they recommend with their system.
